You will see amazing wildlife, an aray of agricultural crops, historic towns and a insight into Australia's outback.
This Tour operates Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Morning Tea at Mareeba Wetlands
Our first stop is Mareeba Wetlands for morning tea and a twenty minute cruise in an environmentally friendly and quiet electric boat. (This option may change during our wet season when the wetlands aren't accessible.)
From here we travel through the back blocks of this wetland area viewing wallabies, emus and other wildlife and then along the agricultural paddocks of this fertile area, eventually crossing over the Great Divide and into the Western watershed.
After leaving the Wetlands we travel west and time permitting travelling past Lappa Junction, this was once a thriving mining site and railway siding. From here we travel through historical towns and rolling hills rich in mineral eventually giving way to towering limestone karsts scattered around Chillagoe.
Here we delve into the history of the copper smelters, whose old chimneys dominate the western horizon.
We visit the remains of the once mighty smelters to ponder what it was like working there.
Now it's time for a wonderful Pub lunch enjoy one of the best Beef Burgers the north has to offer or enjoy fish chips and salad we also cater for vegetarians upon request. Here there is a chance to meet the true outback locals enjoy this historic pub built back at the turn of the centuary before setting off to have a look at this historical town of Chillagoe on route to our National Parks cave tour.
Here you will be amazed at the amazing limestone formation and these ancient limestone karsts.
Guided National Parks Caving Tours
We meet the National Parks Guide for our guided tour through one of the 600 Limestone caves that are in this area. The fossilized remains of the ancient coral reefs with hidden limestone labyrinths give a portal to a lost world just like our own Great Barrier Reef. Millions of years in the making, the limestone formations are nothing short of spectacular.
Mt Uncle Distillery
After the cave tour, we head back towards the east coast, stopping at Mt Uncle Distillery for a choice of their delicious coffee and scones or sample the Spirit and Liqueour tasting possibly a wine or beer (own cost).
This is a beautiful setting in Bridges Cafe surrounded by beautiful garden or stroll around the property and view the packing of Advocados and Lady Finger Bananas, or participate in Spirit and Liqueour tasting.
The tour then returns back down the range arriving back in Cairns at approximately 6.30pm
