Hartley's Crocodile Adventures

Situated on the magnificent coastal drive between the popular destinations of Palm Cove and Port Douglas. Rainforest Habitat

The Rainforest Habitat is a wildlife park of the future and world leader in mixed immersion exhibits. It is situated on eight acres of land that has been recreated to provide a window into our natural environment.

Visitors can wander through four different and unique environments that depict over 180 species of the surrounding rainforest, wetlands, woodlands and grasslands.

Regular guided tours are an essential part of the park's focus on biological conservation, as are guest's interaction with wildlife within the sanctuary.

Some Ideas that don't cost a thing: 
"Some of the best things in life are free" and Port Douglas is a great example. Whether it's relaxing on a deserted beach, spotting the unique flora & fauna, or watching the sunset over the Daintree rainforest, if you would like to spend time and not money, then here's a few options.

Island Point
The ideal spot to relax and take a break. Watch the boats return from the reef at 4pm, or look for the turtles which are often spotted surfacing just metres from shore. The park features a kids play area, public toilets and a free gas BBQ.
With Coles supermarket just minutes walk away, Island Point is the perfect spot for a picnic or BBQ while watching the sun set over the Daintree Rainforest, playing frisbee, or simply relaxing.

Star Gazing the Port Douglas night sky
A clear night in Port Douglas is a star gazers dream. Anywhere on Four Mile Beach is perfect for spotting shooting stars, or tracking down planets and constellations. The Southern Cross, Aquarius, Libra, Pisces and Virgo and more can be seen.

Flora & Fauna
Port Douglas is home to a diverse and exotic range of flora & fauna, much of which can be seen with little more than a bit of luck. The arbourtorium, mangrove systems, beaches and many parks are home to exotic bird species, birds of prey, and the distinctive Ulyses butterfly.
The mangrove habitat of Dickson Inlet is home to saltwater crocodiles, while turtles are often seen surfacing close to shore at Island Point, and Lionfish, ocean mullet, & baby Batfish can often be seen in the water around the Marina Mirage and Port Douglas Yacht Club. A colony of bats inhabits a small section of the parkland behind Mudlo Street, flying out at dusk as 1000's of Rainbow Lorakeets return to roost in the palm trees at the Marina Mirage.


Wednesday Sailing
Wednesday Afternoon Gentlemans & Ladies Sailing (WAGLS) is an Australian yachting tradition. Departing the Port Douglas Yacht Club and Marina Mirage around 4pm for a friendly sail followed by drinks and a presentation at the yacht club.

Local yachties sometimes have space for additional 'crew' to join them.....

Watch the Kite Surfers
The southern end of Four Mile Beach is popular with kite surfers and windsurfers during the winter months (June to August) when the steady winds provide ideal conditions. As many as 20 or 30 kites and sails can be seen on days when the conditions are best, providing interested onlookers with hours of entertainment as they perform jumps and attempt tricks.
Kite Surfing lessons are available for those interested.

Have a BBQ
One of the best kept secrets in Port' is that there are a number of parks with free gas BBQs available for public use. Head to the supermarket or Four Mile Seafood Take-Away for BBQ packs. Using the bins provided and cleaning-up when finished will be appreciated by those that use the facilities next.

Live Music
Port Douglas has long been famous for top quality live music. The Central Hotel, Courthouse Hotel, Iron Bar, and Fluid Nightclub regularly provide live music ranging from local performers to touring international acts.

Self Drive Ideas

Get on your bike!
Port Douglas is mostly flat so cycling is a great way to get around and see the town. The cycle/foot paths go all the way from Macrossan street to Four Mile and, being on a peninsula there's no need to worry about getting lost. Bikes are available for hire in town and at some accommodation houses.

Mossman Gorge
Head to Mossmon Gorge (20km north from Port Douglas) for a refreshing freshwater swim or rainforest walk. There is no entry fee, however transport to/from Port Douglas will need to be arranged. There are a number of bus services available. Extra care should be taken after rain as water currents can be very strong.

Australian Venom Zoo
dedicated to all arachnid lovers, especially to those interested in Australian Tarantulas. We've been actively involved in caring for and breeding Australian Tarantulas since the mid eighties in North Queensland and we have an extensive collection of Australian specimens of the Theraphosidae family as well as scorpions and centipedes.

The Clink Theatre
Take a look at "The Clink" Theatre in Mowbray Street. Taking its name from when the building acted as the police station and lockup (the clink) in nearby Mossman, the theatre is the venue for a number of shows throughout the year.
