Port Douglas Accommodation Guide

Longterm Accommodation

If you want to stay a while in Port Douglas but aren't quite ready to buy a house, there are a couple of options: Renting a house or apartment, or renting a room in a shared house or apartment. Both Port Douglas (town) and Four Mile Beach (slightly out of town) are popular for those happy to get around by foot, bike or shuttle bus. Mossman, Cooya Beach & Mowbray are popular alternatives for those with private transport to make the short drive. The best time to look is from December to Easter when seasonal workers & backpackers depart as the peak tourist season slows.

Where to look.

There are a number of places you can find or place ads for a room to rent.

Rental Properties

Private Apartments, Resort Apartments and Houses, both furnished and unfurnished, are available for longterm rent. Leases are generally available for 6 or 12 months, requiring 4 weeks bond and 2 weeks rent in advance. Prices range from $260 pw for a 2 bedroom apartment, to $400+ pw for a 4 bedroom house.

Shared Accommodation

Shared accommodation in a house or apartment is common in Port Douglas, particulary with seasonal workers.

You can either look for a room to rent in a share house/apartment, or sign a lease (normally 6 or 12 months) with a Real Estate Agency and find someone to move in.

Prices will vary depending on location, facilities and number of rooms/people sharing. As a rough guide.... $100 - $150 a room pw plus bills should be expected.
